Meladine

A Natural Melanin Enhancer making people with blonde, white, grey and residual vellus hair good candidates for IPL hair removal.

Intense Pulsed Light hair removal has provided an effective solution for millions of people looking to rid themselves of unwanted hair. IPL use the naturally occurring melanin in the hair as a target to selectively disable the hair follicle while leaving surrounding skin structures intact.

However, lighter hair has too little melanin to provide an effective target for IPL or laser, so people with white, grey and blonde hair have not been suitable candidates for IPL or laser hair removal... until now.

How it works

When sprayed on the desired area, Meladine's patented delivery system selectively deposits natural melanin directly into the hair follicle. The melanin is delivered via liposomes, which are absorbed by the hair follicle. The result is temporary, melanin-rich follicles that IPL is able to target. As laser light passes through the epidermis, it is able to locate and disable the now-pigmented hair follicle - just as if the follicle had its own natural coloration.

Because the melanin is deposited directly into the hair follicle, the patient will not experience colouration to the hair shaft in the area being treated. In other words, the hair above the surface of the skin will not darken, the only colouration will occur within the hair follicle, which is under the skin.

Additionally, because the surrounding epidermis does not absorb the liposomes, the patient will not experience colouration or staining of the skin. Subsequently, Meladine will not enhance the effects of IPL on the skin (i.e. increase the risk of burning the skin), only on the hair follicle.
